Sustainability in the Fashion Industry

Updated: Mar 18, 2021

How GoBelieve is staying accountable to keeping the world clean for future generations.

What is Sustainability?

Sustainability is a word that has been catapulted into the public mind within the last few decades, and its importance cannot be overstated. Environmental sustainability is defined as, “Responsibly interacting with the planet to maintain natural resources and avoid jeopardizing the ability for future generations to meet their needs.” With more and more people making the decision to create a cleaner world through their clothing purchases, GoBelive wanted to be on the forefront of that effort. Contrary to sustainable fashion, fast fashion is defined as, “Clothes made cheaply to meet demands for the new styles.” While inexpensive and easy-to-access, clothes made of cheap synthetics (like polyester, nylon, and spandex) can take up to 200 years to decompose once thrown away.

GoBelieve's Transparency Promise

Transparency is one of the most important aspects of being a sustainable-minded organization. Just because a tag on an item claims it’s sustainable does not mean the supply chain itself is sustainable, which is where our transparency promise comes in! Our items are sourced from WRAP certified (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production) factories and hands made in our sustainable printing shop. WRAP is an independent organization whose “goal is to ensure that production facilities operate in a safe, responsible, and ethical way.” After undergoing a series of tests, factories and distribution centers can be certified by WRAP and organizations like GoBelieve can choose to support these factories and employ them to create apparel for their brand. The workers in these WRAP certified factories are paid fairly and have a safe and clean work environment. GoBelive would never unknowingly support a factory who mistreats their workers or causes more harm to our already damaged planet, and WRAP helps organizations like ours to stay faithful to our promise of sustainability.

Taking Care of Our Future

A favorite saying at GoBelieve is an old Native American proverb: “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.” GoBelieve wants to be a model of what it looks like to responsibly live on this Earth we are borrow and desires to guide students along a path of sustainability and environmental consciousness.
